Vandals scrawled vile anti-Semitic drawings on a monument dedicated to six IAF crewmen killed in a 2010 training accident in Romania.

Anti-Semitic vandals defaced a monument near Brasow, Romania, honoring six Israeli Air Force (IAF) crewmen who were killed during a training mission in the area in 2010.

The vandals covered the monument with swastikas, a drawing of a pig, and “You’re pigs,” transliterated from Hebrew into Roman characters, Israel Radio reported Sunday.

Israel’s ambassador to Romania, Tamar Samash, contacted the Israeli police attaché in Bucharest, who in turn got in touch with the Romanian police and discovered that they were unaware of the incident. The monument is located in a remote site.

The Romanian police subsequently launched an investigation into the anti-Semitic incident.

Samash also dispatched a missive to Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and to the Romanian foreign minister to notify them of the incident and to request their prompt response.

The monument is dedicated to six IAF crewmen, four pilots and two technicians, whose helicopter crashed into the Carpathian Mountains on July 26, 2010, during a joint training exercise with the Romanian military. A Romanian officer was also killed in the crash.
