Jewish social media guru Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, is using his outlet to connect with Tel Aviv.

The Facebook CEO joined the Secret Tel Aviv group last weekend, immediately catching the attention of dozens among the nearly-228,000 members who rejoiced in Zuckerberg’s acknowledgment of the great city.

“Hey – I’m glad to be here to stay more connected with Tel Aviv,” Zuckerberg commented on a group member’s screenshot of Secret Tel Aviv’s newest well-known member. “It’s been too long since my last visit. Thanks for creating this community!”

Jonny Stark launched the Secret Tel Aviv page in 2011 with the goal of getting Tel Aviv residents and visitors “to share their experiences and questions, meet new people and learn about some of the secrets of this awesome city.”

Occasionally, Zuckerberg shares posts related to his Jewish identity with his 119 million followers.

In September, for example, he posted a video of himself blowing a shofar – an instrument made of a ram’s horn, although occasionally from that of a sheep or goat, meant to turn the listener’s focus to repentance – on the occasion of Rosh Hashana. He wished his followers a “sweet new year.”

The 33-year-old owns around 16 percent of Facebook’s stock, making him worth $74.2 billion, according to Forbes.
