Israel cancels mass Lag Ba’Omer event at Meron over Hezbollah threat
World Israel News Staff
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has canceled this year’s mass Lag Ba’Omer gathering at Mount Meron, ordering the event to be held only in a limited, symbolic format.
The annual pilgrimage to the tomb of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, normally drawing hundreds of thousands, was scrapped over fears of a mass-casualty event, citing the fragile ceasefire with Hezbollah, ongoing rocket threats, and the site’s proximity to the Lebanon border.
Lag Ba’Omer will still be marked on May 4–5, but without the traditional large-scale celebrations at Meron.
