In two separate incidents within the same hour on Tuesday morning, Palestinian terrorists attempted ramming their vehicles into IDF soldiers in the Judea and Samaria region. One assailant was killed by Israeli security forces; the other was arrested. A third attack took place Monday evening.
In the first incident, Border Police officers fired at a Palestinian vehicle moving towards border guards in the village of Idhna, near Hebron. The guards were securing the safety of Civil Administration (CA) inspectors on a law enforcement mission. There were no casualties on the Israeli side, however, Palestinian media reported that the terrorist was killed.
According to the initial investigation, one of the assailants hit a CA car and then drove into a soldier, injuring him lightly. A border guard fired a warning shot into the air before aiming at the car, which kept moving. The driver, identified in Arab media as 27-year-old Omar Awwad, died of his wounds a short time later.
Meanwhile, another attempted ramming attack in the northern Jordan Valley occurred almost simultaneously while security forces were demolishing an illegal structure in the Palestinian village of Al-Jiftlik. A vehicle began accelerating towards the forces, who responded with fire. The driver was arrested.
The previous night, shots were fired at an army pillbox by the Bir Zeit bridge in western Binyamin shortly after 11 p.m. No injuries were reported in that incident.
On Sunday, Palestinians injured seven people, including a 21-year-old pregnant woman, in a drive-by shooting outside the community of Ofra in Samaria. The woman, who was severely wounded, appears to be on the road to recovery, while the baby, delivered in an emergency C-section, is in critical condition.
