Serial burglar’s Sabbath heists terrorize Brooklyn’s kosher stores

Robinson most recently served four years at Bare Hill Correctional Facility in Malone, N.Y., on two dozen charges ranging from burglary to grand larceny before his release in 2023.

Brooklyn’s Jewish shopkeepers say they’re living in fear after an ex-con with a rap sheet longer than the Torah keeps looting their kosher stores during the Sabbath.

Police say Angelo Robinson, a five-time felon with more than 40 arrests since the 1980s, has been targeting kosher markets and delis on holy days for years.

His latest spree included a Yom Kippur break-in at Gravesend’s Kosher Korner last fall, where he allegedly sawed through a back-door lock and made off with $30,000.

Less than a month later, prosecutors say Robinson struck again — this time climbing through a rooftop hatch at Jerusalem Glatt on King’s Highway, cutting alarm wires and prying open a safe to grab another $107,000 in cash.

Detectives later traced a fingerprint from a plastic wrapper he left behind, leading to his arrest in October.

But the case fell apart after police failed to turn over the fingerprint evidence in time, forcing his release on his own recognizance.

“He keeps hitting Jewish stores on the Sabbath. This is the epitome of the problem of New York,” the owner of Jerusalem Glatt told The New York Post. “How many times can a guy get arrested?”

Robinson most recently served four years at Bare Hill Correctional Facility in Malone, N.Y., on two dozen charges ranging from burglary to grand larceny before his release in 2023.

He previously made headlines in 2017 after breaking into then–Brooklyn State Sen. Simcha Felder’s office and tunneling through the wall into Mechy’s Gourmet on Avenue J, where police say he stole $5,000 from the register.

Although free now due to the technical error, the investigation continues into other recent break-ins linked to the 61-year-old, including a $25,000 theft at Mountain Fruit in Midwood and additional Sabbath-night burglaries at other kosher markets.
