‘I want a real end to Iran’s nuke program’ – Trump denies Macron’s claim that US is pushing Iran-Israel ceasefire

French President Macron claims US President Trump made an offer for a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, drawing denials from Trump, who hinted at something “much bigger.”

French President Emmanuel Macron claimed on Monday that U.S. President Donald Trump left the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Alberta, Canada early in order to promote a ceasefire between Israel and Iran – a claim the American president denied hours later.

“There is indeed an offer to meet and exchange,” Macron told reporters at the summit.

“An offer was made especially to get a ceasefire and to then kick-start broader discussions,” suggesting that the Trump administration had floated a truce plan to the two sides. “We have to see now whether the sides will follow.”

On Tuesday, Trump rebutted Macron’s claims, writing that his French counterpart was “wrong,” adding that his return to Washington had “nothing to do” with a possible ceasefire.

“Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a ‘cease fire’ between Israel and Iran,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.

“Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire.”

The president went on to tease “bigger” news than a possible ceasefire, without providing details.

“Much bigger than that. Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay Tuned!”

Trump’s comments came following a flurry of social media posts in which he appeared to defend possible American involvement in the Iran war, as American refueling aircraft were diverted to the region.

“Iran should have signed the ‘deal’ I told them to sign,” Trump wrote on Monday. “What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!”

Following his response to Macron, Trump wrote that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons was a necessary perquisite for making America “great again.”

“AMERICA FIRST means many GREAT things, including the fact that, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

He also explicitly denied offering to conduct “peace talks” with Iran.

“I have not reached out to Iran for ‘Peace Talks’ in any way, shape, or form. This is just more HIGHLY FABRICATED, FAKE NEWS! If they want to talk, they know how to reach me. They should have taken the deal that was on the table – Would have saved a lot of lives!!!”

Earlier on Tuesday, Axios, the US website, cited four sources who claimed that the White House is mulling a meeting between US Mideast Envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in the hope of negotiating a nuclear deal and a ceasefire ending the current war.

According to CBS News, Trump poured cold water on predictions of a truce, saying that he “does not expect Israel to slow down its fight against Iran.”

“You’re going to find out over the next two days,” Trump added. “Nothing’s slowed up so far.”

Trump added that he does not want a ceasefire but a “real end” to Iran’s nuclear program, with the Islamic republic giving “up entirely” on its pursuit of nuclear weapons.

The president did say he was considering sending envoys to the region, including Witkoff or Vice President J.D. Vance.
