Syria calls for UN to punish Israel for alleged airstrike

Although criticizing a number of other countries for enabling an alleged Israeli airstrike near Damascus, Syria called for UN action only against Israel.

Syria called for the UN on Friday to punish Israel for an alleged Israeli strike early Friday morning at the al-Mezzeh military airport located west of Damascus.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry made the request in two letters addressed to the UN Secretary General and the president of the UN Security Council in which it condemned the “Israeli aggression.”

The foreign ministry, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), also directed its criticism against a number of other countries for enabling such alleged attacks by Israel, including “French, and British intelligence agencies and their agents in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, and other countries that wanted to impose control and hegemony on Syria and the region.”

Syria’s foreign ministry also claimed that “such attacks would not have happened without the direct support of the outgoing US administration and the French and British leaderships.”

Although the ministry referenced a number of state actors in its letters, it did not call for the UN to take immediate action against anyone other than Israel.
