Talks with Iran developing ‘at a rapid pace,’ Trump says

Trump’s post about Iran talks followed his announcement of a potential halt to the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.

US President Donald Trump said Monday that negotiations with Iran are advancing “at a rapid pace,” hours after announcing that Israel had halted a planned military operation in Beirut and that Hezbollah had signaled a willingness to stop attacks on Israel.

In a brief post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Talks are continuing, at a rapid pace, with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

The statement came after a series of developments involving Israel, Hezbollah, and Iran.

Earlier Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that Israeli military action against Hezbollah in Lebanon would constitute a violation of the ceasefire between Iran and the United States.

In a post on X, Araghchi wrote: “The ceasefire between Iran and the US is unequivocally a ceasefire on all fronts, including in Lebanon,” adding that a violation in one arena would be considered a violation on all fronts.

“The US and Israel are responsible for the consequences of any violation,” he wrote.

The warning followed statements by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz indicating that Hezbollah headquarters in Beirut’s Dahieh district would no longer be exempt from Israeli military action.

“There will be no situation in which Hezbollah attacks our cities and citizens while the terror headquarters in Dahieh remain off-limits,” Netanyahu said in a video statement.

However, Trump later announced that the planned Israeli operation would not proceed.

“I had a very productive call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel, and there will be no Troops going to Beirut, and any Troops that are on their way have already been turned back,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump also said he communicated with Hezbollah through intermediaries and that the group had agreed to stop attacks.

“Likewise, through highly placed Representatives, I had a very good call with Hezbollah, and they agreed that all shooting will stop — That Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel.”

Separately, Axios reported that Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri informed the Trump administration that Hezbollah was prepared to enter and uphold an immediate comprehensive ceasefire with Israel.

According to adviser Ali Hamdan, Berri conveyed the message to US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa on Sunday. Hamdan said Hezbollah would halt drone and rocket fire toward northern Israel if the United States canceled a planned operation in Beirut.
