Tehran warns IDF strikes in Beirut will end Iran-US ceasefire

Iran threatens to resume war with the US if Israel strikes Hezbollah positions in Lebanon’s capital.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned Israel against striking Hezbollah positions in Beirut, saying any attack on the Lebanese capital would trigger a full resumption of the regional war, as US-led talks seek to stabilize a fragile Israel-Lebanon ceasefire.

“Any attack on Beirut will have grave consequences and will lead to a full-scale resumption of the war,” Araghchi told Lebanon’s Al Mayadeen TV on Wednesday.

“Our armed forces are ready to strike Israel if it attacks Beirut,” he said.

The warning came as Israel and Lebanon agreed in Washington to implement a ceasefire framework brokered by the United States.

The agreement is conditioned on a complete halt to Hezbollah fire and the withdrawal of Hezbollah operatives from the south Litani sector.

The US, Israel and Lebanon said in a joint statement that the sides also agreed to advance “pilot zones” in which the Lebanese Armed Forces would take exclusive control, excluding all non-state actors.

Araghchi linked the Lebanon front directly to the broader conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States.

“The fate of the war between Iran and the Zionists and Americans is inseparable from the fate of the battle in Lebanon, and these two fronts have been intertwined since day one,” he said.

He also demanded that any ceasefire agreement in Lebanon must include an Israeli withdrawal from areas it holds in the south.

“The end of the war in Lebanon also means the end of the occupation,” Araghchi said. “That is, the end of the war must be accompanied by the withdrawal of the Zionist regime’s forces from the areas they have occupied.”

The Iranian foreign minister said communications with Washington had not been cut off, but that there had been “no tangible progress” in negotiations to end the wider war.

“Communications with the Americans have not been cut off, and messages have been exchanged regarding the need to stop aggression against Beirut, but no tangible progress has been made in the negotiation process,” he said.

Fighting between Israel and Hezbollah has continued in southern Lebanon despite the US-backed ceasefire.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said Thursday that Israeli forces would remain in parts of southern Lebanon to prevent Hezbollah from reestablishing positions near the border and that Israel would continue acting against Hezbollah infrastructure.
