Arab-Israeli Conflict

The new weapon that might decide the entire war against Iran

In any future confrontation between Israel and Iran, the battle may be decided long before fighter jets cross borders or missiles are launched.

Increasingly, the decisive factor is intelligence—who sees first, who understands fastest, and who can strike with precision before the other side can react.

In this emerging reality, Israel’s newest long-range unmanned aircraft, the Hermes 650, could become one of the most influential systems on the battlefield.

The Hermes 650 represents a generational leap in Israel’s unmanned capabilities.

Built for extreme endurance, it can remain airborne for more than 40 hours, carrying a suite of sensors that allow it to map, monitor, and track activity across vast distances. In a conflict with Iran, this endurance is not a luxury but a strategic necessity.

Iran’s most dangerous assets—its mobile ballistic missile launchers, dispersed nuclear-related infrastructure, and IRGC command convoys—are constantly on the move. Finding them requires persistence, and persistence is exactly what the Hermes 650 provides.

During the 2025 Israel–Iran confrontation, earlier Hermes models played a central role in identifying targets deep inside Iranian territory. The Hermes 650 would expand that capability dramatically.

Its combination of electro‑optical cameras, synthetic‑aperture radar, and signals‑intelligence receivers allows it to detect relocations of missile batteries, track senior commanders, and monitor air‑defense movements in real time.

This compresses the time between detection and strike from hours to minutes, giving Israel the ability to respond to fleeting targets that previously would have disappeared.

Survivability is another factor. Iran’s air defense network, while extensive, has shown vulnerabilities when confronted with high-altitude, low-signature UAVs.

The Hermes 650 is designed to operate above most short-range threats while keeping enough distance from heavier systems to reduce risk.

If Iran cannot reliably intercept these drones, Israel gains a continuous, unblinking view of the battlespace.

Perhaps most importantly, the Hermes 650 can act as an airborne command node, coordinating smaller drones, relaying communications, and assessing battle damage.

In a war where cyberattacks, sabotage teams, and precision strikes all operate simultaneously, such a node becomes the glue that holds the campaign together.

In a conflict defined by speed, intelligence, and precision, the Hermes 650 would not merely support Israeli operations—it could shape the tempo, expose Iran’s vulnerabilities, and ultimately influence the war’s outcome long before the first headline announces it.
