‘Treasonous, corrupt criminals’ — Trump on the New York Times

In a Truth Social tirade, Trump threatened fresh legal action against the outlet, which he described as “failing.”

President Donald Trump on Sunday referred to The New York Times as a “treasonous” media outlet on Sunday, threatening to expand his legal battle against the newspaper involving an ongoing multi-billion-dollar lawsuit.

In an angry post on his Truth Social platform, Trump lashed out at the “corrupt and failing” Times over a headline that questioned the achievements of the war with Iran. The president accused the newspaper of publishing false coverage about the conflict and vowed to fold that reporting into his legal fight against the outlet.

He denounced the paper’s coverage as “treasonous” and declared: “I will be adding all of their false and ridiculous reporting to my multi Billion Dollar lawsuit against them,” adding that “they are Criminals!”

Trump defended the outcome of the conflict by arguing that Iran had suffered catastrophic military and economic damage as a result of U.S. action. He claimed that Iran’s military and navy had been significantly weakened and said key strategic assets — including missiles, drones and weapons manufacturing sites — had been devastated by American strikes.

The president also pointed to the elimination of senior Iranian leaders as evidence of success, writing that “their top two sets of leaders are gone.” The remark appeared to reference high-profile assassinations carried out during the opening phase of the war, including that of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Trump further asserted that Iran’s economy had been shattered by the conflict. He claimed inflation in the Islamic Republic had soared to “250 percent” and said the regime was now so financially crippled that it could not pay its own soldiers. In contrast, Trump portrayed the United States as thriving, saying the American economy was booming in the wake of the war.

Citing those points as proof of the war’s achievements, Trump addressed the newspaper directly, writing: “That’s what’s CHANGED, you corrupt and unethical cowards.”

Trump’s latest broadside marks the latest chapter in his long-running feud with *The New York Times*, one of several media organizations he has repeatedly accused of biased and dishonest reporting.

In October 2025, Trump refiled a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against the paper, after the case had initially been dismissed by a federal judge.
