Trump again avoids commitment to two-state solution

Trump said that although he likes the two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians, he primarily supports whatever solution is agreed upon between the two parties.

President Donald Trump continued to avoid making any explicit commitment to a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, in an interview with Reuters on Thursday.

“I like the two-state solution, but I ultimately like what the both parties like,” said Trump, echoing remarks during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week in which he said that he was looking at the prospects of both a two-state and a one-state solution.

Trump also touched upon the continued failure of attempts over the past couple of decades to implement a two-state solution.

“People have been talking about it for so many years now. It so far hasn’t worked,” noted Trump.
