Trump: Iran wants deal ‘so badly’ but ‘afraid’ to say it

President Trump pushes back on Iranian denials the regime is seeking to end the war, telling Republicans the US is “winning so big.”

President Donald Trump on Wednesday touted the accomplishments of the ongoing air campaign against the Iranian regime, reassuring jittery Republicans ahead of the 2026 midterms that the conflict would be limited in scope – as will the surge in oil prices.

“I can’t say that ‘Gee, I don’t want to have any impact on oil prices for three or four weeks, or two months, and we’re going to let Iran have a nuclear weapon,’” Trump said at a fundraising event hosted by the National Republican Congressional Committee at Washington’s Union Station.

Trump boasted that the United States is “winning so big” in the war with Iran, pushing back on denials by senior regime officials that the Islamic Republic is anxious to negotiate an end to the conflict.

“We settled eight wars, people sort of forget. And we’re winning another one, I tell you, we’re winning so big,” Trump said.

“Nobody’s ever seen anything like we’re doing in the Middle East with Iran. And they are negotiating, by the way, and they want to make a deal so badly, but they’re afraid to say it because they figure they’ll be killed by their own people.”

“They’re also afraid they’ll be killed by us. There’s never been a head of a country that wanted that job less than being the head of Iran. I don’t want it.”

Earlier Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that Operation Epic Fury is running ahead of the original timeline set for the campaign.

President Trump “from the outset … estimated it would take approximately four to six weeks to achieve this critical mission,” Leavitt said.

“Twenty-five days in, the greatest military the world has ever known is ahead of schedule and performing exceptionally.”

The Trump administration has publicly stated that the operation was initially slated to take four to six weeks. The war will enter its fifth week over the weekend.
