Trump: Iran war is ‘pretty much’ complete

President Donald Trump suggests the war with Iran will be over “very soon,” citing damage to Iran’s military, but then adds that it will continue at least through the week.

President Donald Trump signaled on Monday that the conflict with Iran is nearing its conclusion, telling CBS News that Operation Epic Fury is “very far ahead of schedule,” after initially estimating it would take four to five weeks for the United States to achieve its goals.

“I think the war is very much complete, pretty much,” Trump said at his golf club in Doral, Florida.

“They have no navy, no communications, they’ve got no air force. Their missiles are down to a scatter. Their drones are being blown up all over the place, including their manufacturing of drones.”

“If you look, they have nothing left. There’s nothing left in a military sense,” Trump added.

Later on Monday, Trump told reporters at a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate that while the war would be over “soon,” it would not be completed this week.

“Very soon. Look, everything they have is gone, including their leadership.”

“Two levels of leadership are gone,” Trump continued.

When asked how he would define victory and agree to halt US strikes, the president said that he wanted to ensure that Iran will have no capacity to resume uranium enrichment or ballistic missile development for the foreseeable future.

“When basically I can see that they will no longer have any capacity whatsoever, for a very long period of time, of developing weaponry that could be used against the United States, Israel, or any of our allies.”

The US has struck over 5,000 targets across Iran as part of Operation Epic Fury, US Central Command said, sinking or damaging more than 50 Iranian military vessels and hitting a variety of regime positions including command-and-control centers, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ headquarters and intelligence sites, and ballistic missile production and storage facilities.
