Trump: ‘Iran was given ultimate ultimatum’

US president wishes Khamenei “good luck” over refusal to surrender the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.

It was another momentous day in the Middle East on Wednesday, amid further escalation in the war of words between US President Donald Trump and Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Speaking to reporters on the White House’s south lawn, Trump revealed that Iranian officials suggested they come to Washington, D.C., to put an end to Israel’s Operation Rising Lion.

“Iran’s got a lot of trouble, and they want to negotiate,” Trump added.

“And I said, ‘Why didn’t you negotiate with me before all this death and destruction? Why didn’t you negotiate?’ I said to people, ‘Why didn’t you negotiate with me two weeks ago? You could have done fine. You would have had a country.’”

A reporter asked him if he had given the Islamic Republic the “ultimate ultimatum,” according to Fox News.

“You could say so, the ultimate ultimatum,” Trump responded.

Earlier, Trump had emphasized that the US would never allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon.

He also mocked Iran as “defenseless,” and said he has not made up his mind about striking Khamenei’s regime, although it seems clear that he is seriously considering it.

The president maintained that his call for “Unconditional Surrender” on a Truth Social post was his way of saying that he’s “had it” with Tehran.

Iran’s embattled leader refused Trump’s suggestion of surrender, with the president responding with a pithy “good luck.”

“No Iranian official has ever asked to grovel at the gates of the White House. The only thing more despicable than his lies is his cowardly threat to ‘take out’ Iran’s Supreme Leader,” according to an X post from Iran’s mission to the United Nations.

“Iran does NOT negotiate under duress, shall NOT accept peace under duress, and certainly NOT with a has-been warmonger clinging to relevance. “Iran shall respond to any threat with a counter-threat, and to any action with reciprocal measures.”
