Trump says Iran talks could end ‘a different way’ if US demands not met

President Donald Trump warned that talks with Iran could end in renewed military action if Tehran does not accept US demands, saying in a new interview that Washington would either secure the deal it wants or “end it a different way.”

Speaking on Fox News’ “My View with Lara Trump,” the president said negotiations with Iran were still moving forward but framed the talks as backed by the threat of force.

“If we don’t get what we want, we’re gonna end in a different way,” Trump said.

Trump said that the United States would either make “a good deal” or “finish the job militarily” in Iran. He added that the process would happen “slowly but surely.”

The comments came as Trump weighs whether to accept a proposed agreement intended to extend the ceasefire with Iran and open the way for negotiations on a longer-term settlement.

Reuters reported Friday that Trump had convened a Situation Room meeting to make what he called a “final determination” on the proposal, but the talks remained unresolved.

The emerging deal has centered on a possible 60-day extension of the truce, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the future of Iran’s nuclear program.

Trump has said any agreement must include an Iranian commitment never to develop a nuclear weapon, the reopening of the strategic waterway without tolls, the removal of sea mines and the destruction or removal of Iran’s highly enriched uranium.

“Iran must agree that they will never have a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb,” Trump wrote Friday. “The Hormuz Strait must be immediately open, no tolls, for unrestricted shipping traffic, in both directions.”

The White House has said Trump will only accept an agreement that satisfies his red lines.

“President Trump will only make a deal that is good for America and satisfies his redlines. Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon,” a White House official told Reuters.

But Iranian officials have pushed back on Trump’s portrayal of the negotiations. Reuters reported that a senior Iranian source said an agreement was close but had not been approved, while Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency accused Trump of trying to present a “fabricated victory.”
