Trump to go forward with plan to move US embassy to Jerusalem

US President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team will reportedly maintain its plan to to move the US embassy to Jerusalem, rebuffing warnings against doing so.

US President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team has informed a number of US allies that it intends to go forward with its plans to move the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, according to a report by CNN.

Trump and his team have not changed course in spite of major warnings from Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas that such a move would be an “aggressive” one that “crosses a red line.” Another senior Palestinian official said would “ignite” Palestinian areas in Judea, Samaria and Gaza.

The Trump team is also apparently ignoring warnings from US Secretary of State John Kerry, who said that moving the US embassy to Jerusalem would lead to an “absolute explosion” in Israel and throughout the Middle East.

Some pundits in Israel are speculating that the incoming Trump administration will make an official announcement on moving the US embassy on “Jerusalem Day,” which falls this year on May 24. The holiday celebrates the reunification of Jerusalem after the Six-Day War of 1967 on the 28th day of the Hebrew month of Iyar.

Meanwhile, several US Senators have reintroduced the Jerusalem Embassy and Recognition Act, a bill that would mandate immediately the moving of the US embassy to Jerusalem.
