Trump to hold meeting on military options for Iran as US says Tehran proposal ‘not sufficient’

Iran has not yet provided a clear answer regarding what concessions it is prepared to make on uranium enrichment.

President Donald Trump will convene his national security team on Tuesday to discuss military options regarding Iran after Washington received what a senior American official described as an inadequate revised Iranian proposal delivered through Pakistani mediators.

The White House views the updated Iranian proposal as “not sufficient” and lacking details that could produce a breakthrough in the negotiations, the official told Channel 12 News on Monday.

The official said Iran has not yet provided a clear answer regarding what concessions it is prepared to make on uranium enrichment and its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, which he described as the two central issues for Trump.

“We have not achieved much progress,” the official said. “We are at a very serious point in terms of how severe the situation is. The pressure is on Iran; they are the ones who need to respond appropriately.”

The official issued a warning regarding the future of the negotiations, saying: “It is time for the Iranians to throw some candy on the table. We need a real, serious, and detailed discussion regarding the nuclear program. If that does not happen, we will conduct this discussion through bombs, and it is a shame it has come to this.”

In another remark to Channel 12 News, the official said: “If that does not happen, we will conduct the talks through bombs.”

The discussion scheduled for Tuesday will be the first formal meeting Trump has held with his national security team specifically focused on military options regarding Iran, the American official said.

He added that an informal discussion on the issue took place over the weekend while Trump was staying at his golf club with CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Vice President JD Vance, envoy Steve Witkoff, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The US military is expected to present Trump with operational plans and possible alternatives for future action during Tuesday’s meeting.

Barak Ravid first reported the details on Channel 12 News.
