Trump tweets: ‘KOREAN WAR TO END! US should be very proud’

Trump tweeted: “KOREAN WAR TO END! The United States, and all of its GREAT people, should be very proud of what is now taking place in Korea!”

President Donald Trump enthused about Friday’s historic meeting of North Korea’s Kim Jong Un with South Korean President Moon Jae-in in South Korea, where they pledged in a joint statement to rid their peninsula of nuclear weapons.

At the first inter-Korean summit in more than a decade, the two Korean leaders vowed to rid their countries of nuclear weapons, reduce animosity, end and avoid war and resume temporary reunions between relatives separated by the conflict, working to establish a “permanent” and “solid” peace and the “complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.”

“The declaration included promises to pursue phased military arms reduction, cease hostile acts, transform their fortified border into a peace zone, and seek multilateral talks with other countries, including the United States,” Reuters reported.

Trump tweeted: “KOREAN WAR TO END! The United States, and all of its GREAT people, should be very proud of what is now taking place in Korea!”

“Please do not forget the great help that my good friend, President Xi of China, has given to the United States, particularly at the Border of North Korea. Without him it would have been a much longer, tougher, process!” he added in another tweet.

Trump is expected to meet with Kim in late May or June.
