Five Turkish rioters were arrested after trying to break into the Israeli consulate in Istanbul on Monday to protest Israel’s retaliatory airstrikes against Hamas after the southern Israeli city of Sderot was hit by a rocket fired from Gaza.
Turkish police have detained five rioters who tried to force their way into the Israeli consulate in Istanbul on Monday to protest Israeli retaliatory airstrikes against Hamas’ terror infrastructure in Gaza.
Turkey’s Anadolu Agency reported that the rioters entered a business center in which the consulate is situated early Monday and were detained by police who were called to the scene.
Security around the complex was increased, Anadolu said.
The Israeli Air Force (IAF) carried out a series of airstrikes in the Gaza Strip late Sunday, targeting Palestinian terror targets in response to a Palestinian rocket attack that hit Sderot earlier in the day.
The incident comes just days after the Turkish parliament ratified the reconciliation agreement signed with Israel in June, ending a six-year rift between the two former allies.
Hamas receives broad support in Turkey and has close ties with its government.
