Two rockets fired from Gaza, Israel shoots down one

The Israeli military’s defenses intercepted a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip at southern Israel.

By Associated Press

The IDF said in a statement Tuesday that it identified two projectiles fired from the Gaza Strip. One was intercepted by an Iron Dome missile defense battery.

It was the second incident this week, and rattled the shaky cease-fire brokered by Egypt and the U.N. two weeks ago that ended two days of fighting with Palestinian terror groups during which Islamic Jihad launched over 450 rockets at Israeli civilians.

Earlier this month, Israel killed a senior Islamic Jihad commander in the Gaza Strip. The terror group launched hundreds of rockets at Israel in response. Israeli retaliatory strikes left at least 34 Palestinians dead, the overwhelming majority of which were members of Islamic Jihad.

Unofficial cease-fires have led to months of calm between Israel and Hamas, the terror group that rules Gaza.

Earlier in the day an incarcerated Palestinian terrorist who was serving three life sentences for murder and attempted murder, among other charges, died in an Israeli hospital.
