Two Jewish immigrants named as victims of Iranian strike on construction site

Two construction workers from Petah Tikva were killed Monday when an Iranian missile struck a building site in the central Israeli city of Yehud, emergency responders and local officials said.

The victims were identified as Rostam Guliamov, 61, and Amir Mortozov, Uzbek Jewish immigrants who had been working at the construction site when the missile carrying a fragmentation warhead hit the area near Tel Aviv.

Emergency teams from Magen David Adom were dispatched after air raid sirens sounded and reports came in of several impact locations across central Israel.

MDA medic Liz Gurel said the team encountered a devastating scene upon arrival.

“Immediately after the sirens, we at Magen David Adom received reports about several impact sites in central Israel and went out to scan all of them,” Gurel said, adding that one location turned out to be the construction site.

According to Gurel, the two workers were found unconscious with serious wounds caused by fragments from the missile’s warhead. Crews attempted lifesaving measures but were unable to revive one of the victims.

“It was a harsh scene. The two injured people were lying unconscious and suffering from severe shrapnel wounds to their bodies,” she said.

A second man was transported from the scene in critical condition in an intensive care ambulance, she added.

Another first responder, MDA emergency medical technician Alon Boni, said rescue teams arrived with large emergency forces and began searching the area amid widespread damage.

“We arrived with large Magen David Adom forces at a construction site and immediately began conducting searches,” Boni said. He added that the two men had already sustained severe shrapnel injuries when responders reached them.

“We began providing them with initial medical treatment at the scene,” he said, but despite those efforts, “we were forced to declare the death of one of the injured.”

Petah Tikva Mayor Rami Greenberg confirmed the two men were residents of the city and expressed condolences to their families.

“With great sorrow we were informed of the murder of residents of the city who were killed last night as a result of a missile strike in the city of Yehud,” Greenberg said. He said the municipality would support the victims’ families and added, “May their memory be blessed.”
