British parliament is in lockdown following a nearby vehicular-ramming and stabbing attack.

More than a dozen people were attacked and wounded in London Wednesday afternoon.

Initial media reports indicate that a police officer was stabbed outside the British parliament while a vehicle mowed down at least 12 civilians on the nearby Westminster Bridge.

The officer reportedly shot his assailant.

London police were called to the incident at about 2:40 local time.

The Parliament complex is in lockdown.

“What I am able to say to the House is there has been a serious incident within the estate. It seems that a police officer has been stabbed, that the alleged assailant was shot by armed police,” House of Commons leader David Lidington stated.

“An air ambulance is currently attending the scene to remove the casualties. There are also reports of further violent incidents in the vicinity of the Palace of Westminster but I hope colleagues on all sides will appreciate that it’d be wrong of me to go into further details until we have confirmation from the police and from the House security authorities about what is going on,” he said.

UK security said it was too early to determine whether the incident was terror-related.
