US antisemitism czar warns anti-Jewish bigotry ‘running amok’ in Britain

President Trump’s antisemitism czar says he has been “inundated” with requests for assistance from UK Jews during his visit to Britain, calls on Prime Minister Starmer to do more crack down on antisemitism.

The United States Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism warned Monday that anti-Jewish bigotry has been allowed to “run amok” in the United Kingdom and urged Prime Minister Keir Starmer to rein in antisemitism in his country.

Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun, President Donald Trump’s antisemitism czar, spoke with The Telegraph on Monday, capping off a two-day fact-finding tour of Britain.

The visit was arranged following calls to grant British Jews refugee status in the United States, enabling large-scale migration of Jews out of Britain.

Robert Garson, a British-born attorney and a member of the Manchester Jewish community who relocated to the United States, has used his ties with President Trump to push a plan offering asylum to UK Jews.

Kaploun told The Telegraph that prior to his visit, his office had received “numerous requests” from British Jews to lobby the UK government to do more to curb antisemitism.

“They asked us to please take a look and convey to the government their dismay at the lack of protection and their sense of insecurity,” Kaploun said.

During his fact-finding trip, Kaploun met with representatives of the major British political parties but declined to provide details regarding the content of his discussions with party officials.

Kaploun said that proposals to offer British Jews asylum in the US are currently not on the table, though he acknowledged that criticisms of how the British government has handled antisemitism are legitimate.

“In all our meetings, we have found that everybody has agreed the steps are inadequate to make the Jewish community feel safe and secure, and there’s also a sense of a tremendous breakdown of law and order,” Kaploun said.

The Israeli-born Chabad rabbi said that Britain’s migration policies were partially to blame for the rise in antisemitism, adding that mass migration had also fueled the rise of grooming gangs and attacks on churches.

“All of those things lend itself to a sense that the government is not answering the question – do they want the British Jews to be here, and do they want the British Jews to feel safe?”
