US President Donald Trump announced a major reduction of American forces in Germany, saying the drawdown will go “far beyond” the previously planned 5,000 troops.
The move, expected to unfold over the coming months, comes amid rising tensions with Europe over the Iran war and defense spending, with Washington again urging allies to take greater responsibility for their own security.
European leaders voiced concern the decision could weaken NATO’s unity, as the US scales back its long-standing military presence on the continent.
