On the heels of last year’s move of the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, the Americans will also be transferring their annual Fourth of July celebration to Jerusalem.

It is customary for foreign diplomatic missions to host receptions marking their own independence day. Often, they take place at the residence of the top diplomat or the mission itself.

The U.S. celebrations have been taking place in more recent years at larger venues in Tel Aviv or nearby Herzliya.

This summer, reports Israel Hayom, the gala is to take place at the International Convention Center in Jerusalem.

According to the newspaper, U.S. officials are refusing to react but senior Israeli sources are confirming that, in fact, the Americans intend to move the independence celebration to the Israeli capital.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other top Israeli officials have traditionally attended the event.

The newspaper also reports that work is continuing on building an official residence for U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman at the site of the American Consulate building on Agron Street in Jerusalem.
