US to give green light to Israel to resume Gaza war if Hamas does not disarm – report

Trump’s ambassador to the UN reportedly told allies that if Hamas is not disarmed, Israel will be given a green light to resume its war in Gaza.

The United States is prepared to give Israel the green light to resume its war in the Gaza Strip, with the goal of destroying the Hamas terror organization, should the Islamist group refuse calls for it to disarm, according to a report published by Israel Hayom Monday evening.

The comments were attributed to American Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz during deliberations in the UN Security Council ahead of Monday’s vote on the US-backed resolution granting a mandate to an international stabilization force for Gaza and formally adopting the White House’s 20-point Gaza peace plan.

Waltz emphasized that the Trump administration is committed to implementing the entire peace plan, and that the US is working with its allies to assemble a stabilization force to police Gaza and oversee the area’s demilitarization.

Sources cited in the report said that the US has called for Israel to be patient and to give the Gaza plan a chance.

“Just a few weeks ago you didn’t believe that all the living hostages would be released at once, and yet it happened,” American officials were quoted as telling their Israeli counterparts. “Give this a chance, too.”

The report came just hours after Hamas declared that it will not abide by key points in the peace plan, including the clause mandating its disarmament and the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip.

“The American proposal is dangerous — it calls for the deployment of an international force in Gaza,” Hamas declared, following consultations with other Palestinian groups. “This is an attempt to impose international guardianship over the Strip. The proposal reflects a pro-Israel bias.”

“We oppose the disarmament of Gaza. The Palestinian people have the right to defend themselves, and any discussion regarding weapons will take place within an internal Palestinian framework tied to ending the occupation and establishing a Palestinian state.”
