Speaking for close to an hour on her plan to “heal the divides in our country, not only on guns, but on race, immigration and more,” interjected with jabs at Republican candidate Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton was applauded rapturously many times at the Democratic National Convention.
Accepting the Democratic nomination for presidential candidate, she celebrated the “first time that a major party has nominated a woman president. When any barrier falls in America, it paves the way for everyone…. The sky’s the limit,” she said.
“We are the party of working people,” Clinton stated, expanding on what seemed like an increasingly socialist agenda. “Your cause is our cause,” she said, addressing Bernie Sanders, who lost the nomination race to Clinton before Wikileaks revealed a plot to take him down, forcing the resignation of DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Regarding Israel, Sanders has taken a pro-Palestinian stand.
“I’m glad we put a lid on Iran’s nuclear program without firing a shot,” Clinton claimed – referring to the nuclear deal with the Islamic Republic that was vigorously opposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as Israeli politicians across the political spectrum – adding in the same breath that “we must continue supporting Israel’s security.”
