To this day, Iranian Jews continue visiting the city of Hamadan to pay their respects at the tomb of Mordechai and Esther, the Jewish heroes of the Book of Esther. Set in ancient Persia, it is read by Jews throughout the world on the holiday of Purim, which falls this month.
