Last week an El Al flight was delayed for over an hour when four ultra-Orthodox passengers refused to sit next to a woman or to speak with female flight attendants, prompting the CEO of a leading Israeli tech firm to threaten a boycott of the airliner if it practises gender discrimination. While El Al vowed in future to remove any passenger from the plane who refuses to sit next to a woman, ultra-Orthodox Member of Knesset Yisrael Eichler of the United Torah Judaism party in turn has threatened to boycott El Al if it follows through with that promise.
