The White House believes it is close to reaching a deal with Iran to end the war, according to Axios, citing two U.S. officials.
The report follows President Donald Trump’s decision to pause “Project Freedom” in the Strait of Hormuz after noting significant progress in talks.
The sides are reportedly drafting a short memorandum of understanding aimed at halting the fighting and paving the way for broader nuclear negotiations.
The emerging deal would include an Iranian freeze on uranium enrichment in exchange for U.S. sanctions relief and the release of billions in frozen funds, along with easing restrictions on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
U.S. officials expect Iranian responses on key issues within 48 hours, which could determine whether the agreement is finalized.
