Reuters annual survey ranked three Israeli universities among the world’s top 100 innovators.

According to a Reuters annual survey, three Israeli universities have placed among the world’s top 100 for innovation in 2017. The analysis ranks institutions of higher learning for advanced science, invention of new technologies and powering of new markets and industries, patents and research paper citations.
The top Israeli university innovator is the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which came in 82nd place compared to 94th last year. Tel Aviv University made it to the list in 88th place, followed by the Haifa Technion in the 89th.
Reuters made special mention of Hebrew University’s technology transfer company, Yissum Research, which documented 10,000 registered patents, 2,800 inventions, more than 900 licensed technologies and 125 new startups.
The US had the top three universities in the survey. Topping the list is Stanford University in California, which place first for the third year in a row. MIT ranked second, and Harvard University was third.
Among the top 100 university innovators, 51 are based in North America, 26 in Europe, 20 in Asia and the 3 Israeli universities in the Middle East.
