A student from Yeshiva University was violently assaulted Tuesday evening by a group of masked attackers at the 181st Street 1 train subway station in Washington Heights, according to initial reports.

The attack occurred around 7:00 p.m. on the staircase leading down to the platform.

An educator at YU, Rabbi Dovid Bashevkin, said the location is a blind spot with no visible police presence and no security cameras at the time of the assault.

Witnesses report that multiple assailants, all wearing masks, targeted the student before fleeing the scene.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries has not yet been publicly disclosed.

The incident is being investigated as a possible hate crime amid heightened tensions and a recent surge in antisemitic incidents across New York City.

In a statement, the Anti-Defamation League said:

“We are aware of this reported incident and are connecting with law enforcement, community partners and Yeshiva University to learn more. Our thoughts are with the victim, and the YU community impacted.”

Law enforcement has not yet announced any arrests. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the attackers to come forward.

This remains a developing story.
