Israel may strike Iran without US, defense officials tell Trump administration

Israeli defense officials have warned the US that the IDF will strike Iran alone if necessary, should Iran cross the ‘red line’ on ballistic missile development.

Israel could strike Iran if the Islamic Republic’s ballistic missile program progresses beyond a “red line” set by Jerusalem, Israeli defense officials warn, telling the Trump administration that the IDF could take action without the United States.

According to a report by Ma’ariv‘s Avi Ashkenazi, multiple Israeli defense officials have informed their American counterparts that, should Israel determine that Iran’s ballistic missile program is on the threshold of crossing “red lines” set by the Israeli military establishment, the IDF will strike – even if it means acting without the US.

“We told the Americans we will strike alone if Iran crosses the red line we set on ballistic missiles,” one Israeli security official said.

Israeli officials have over the past few weeks conducted high-level exchanges with American officials, conveying Israel’s plans to strike Iranian ballistic missile production facilities and launchers should Tehran’s missile program continue to advance.

The sources cited in the report emphasized that Israel reserves the right to strike Iran independently, regardless of whether President Donald Trump ultimately decides to strike the regime or continue with efforts to achieve a diplomatic solution.

Israel’s security establishment has also expressed concerns that even if the US does launch a new air campaign against Iran, it could be too limited to significantly degrade Tehran’s ballistic missile capabilities, thus forcing Israel to carry out its own air campaign.

“The worry is [Trump] might choose a few targets, declare success, and leave Israel to deal with the fallout, just like with the Houthis,” one Israeli military official said.

On Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi struck a defiant tone following talks with US officials in Oman on Friday, rejecting demands that Tehran agree not to enrich uranium.

“I believe the secret of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s power lies in its ability to stand against bullying, domination and pressures from others,” Araghchi said.

“They fear our atomic bomb, while we are not pursuing an atomic bomb. Our atomic bomb is the power to say no to the great powers. The secret of the Islamic Republic’s power is in the power to say no to the powers.”
