Abbas’ party tweets ‘Trump equal to Hitler, US same as ISIS’

PA president Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah faction tweeted images of the US president alongside Adolf Hitler, with a caption that read “I don’t see any difference do you?”

In a series of posts on the popular social media platform Twitter, Palestinian Authority (PA) president Mahmoud Abbas’ political party, Fatah, accused the United States of terrorism, comparing America to the Islamic State’s (ISIS) failed caliphate. The tweets failed to elaborate on the ways in which the US’ representative democracy resembles ISIS’ brutal quasi-state, settling for the pithy caption, “USA=ISIS=Terror #HandsOffAlQuds.”

The posts were fired off in the weeks following US president Donald Trump’s announcement that the US recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and plans to move the American embassy there.

In another post, Abbas’ party tweeted photos of Trump next to Adolf Hitler, claiming there is no “difference” between the two. Again, no explanation was provided as to the similarities between Trump, who acknowledged the location of a sovereign nation’s capital, and Hitler, who attempted genocide and masterminded the deaths of millions of innocent people.

A “media officer” named Munir al-Jaghub manages Fatah’s social media accounts, including its Twitter profile, which has a meager 7,000 followers or so.

Fatah party leader Abbas periodically advocates non-violent protest in Western media sources, but his speeches in Arabic and statements to Arab media have communicated support for violence and mayhem. For example, amid a spate of horrific stabbing attacks in 2015 perpetrated by Palestinians, Abbas was quoted in the official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida as saying, “Every drop of blood that has been spilled in Jerusalem is holy blood as long as it was for Allah. Every martyr will reach Paradise, and everyone wounded will be rewarded, Allah willing.”

Fatah’s Facebook page and Twitter are well-known destinations for images and statements praising Palestinian terrorism and crime.

On Christmas, Fatah tweeted an apparently doctored image that portrayed IDF soldiers arresting a Palestinian dressed as Santa Claus, a scene the tweet improbably claimed had occurred in Bethlehem.
