Amazon drops shirt calling for deaths of Israeli soldiers – but keeps ‘Death to IDF’ songs

Online retail giant Amazon drops listing for T-shirt calling for the murder of IDF soldiers following a complaint – but leaves up songs with the same message.

Online retail giant Amazon.com has removed a listing for a T-shirt calling for the murder of Israeli soldiers, following a complaint from a pro-Israel group in the United Kingdom.

The shirt was apparently inspired by the anti-Israel chant led by punk-rap group Bob Vylan during a concert in Glastonbury this June, during which the group urged festivalgoers to shout “Death, death to the IDF.”

The item featured the words “DEATH DEATH TO THE IDF!,” along with a graphic image of the skull of an IDF soldier wearing a helmet bearing the Israeli flag, with a blood-soaked bullet hole in the helmet.

The organization UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) penned a letter to Amazon requesting the removal of the offensive item, noting that not only was the shirt possibly illegal in Britain but it also violated Amazon’s own terms of service.

“Anyone wearing a T shirt with the slogan ‘Death, Death to the IDF’ in public could be in breach of Section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986 which prohibits the display of threatening or abusive writing within the sight of people likely to be alarmed or distressed thereby,” UKLFI wrote.

“They could also breach Section 18 of the Public Order Act 1986, which prohibits the display of threatening, abusive or insulting written material likely to stir up racial hatred.”

Amazon’s own regulations prohibit the sale of products that promote, incite or glorify hatred, violence, or racial, sexual or religious intolerance, the group pointed out.

Shortly afterward, Amazon removed the shirt listing.

“We are pleased that Amazon acted swiftly and removed this offensive item,” UKLFI said in a statement over the weekend.

The shirt remains available on ebay, and digital downloads of songs titled “Death, death to the IDF” are still on sale at Amazon.

Multiple songs by various recording artists bear the title “Death, death to the IDF” on Amazon Music, including from Sknapse, Anarki-Sins, and MIRKAT.
