Analyst: Iran now thinking like Israel after Oct. 7

Tehran is increasingly testing regional boundaries following months of conflict, expert argues.

Iran has emerged from months of U.S. military strikes emboldened by its survival and is increasingly embracing a more expansive and aggressive strategic posture, according to an Israeli geopolitical analyst who compared the country’s mindset to that of Israel immediately after the October 7 terror attacks.

“You can think of today’s Iran like Israel on October 8,” Yonatan Adiri, a former Israeli presidential adviser and geopolitical expert, told Radio 103FM on Monday.

“Tehran understands that it needs to [confront] others, go out and rediscover the boundaries again, vis-a-vis its neighbors, vis-a-vis Israel, and of course also vis-a-vis the Americans,” he continued.

Adiri warned that Iran could seek to leverage nuclear capabilities or target nuclear-related assets in the region, noting that Tehran has already carried out a limited strike on a nuclear facility in the United Arab Emirates.

“The International Atomic Energy Agency warned about the danger of an explosive event with nuclear damage in the region. The Iranians are playing this game also with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait. In a few months, Iran will not be the same country we knew,” Adiri added.

He argued that, given this shift in Iran’s strategic outlook, Israel must preserve its freedom of action to safeguard its security — even if doing so creates friction with President Donald Trump.

Adiri praised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for authorizing strikes against Iran following Tehran’s attacks on Israel, despite reported opposition from the American president, who had urged Israel not to retaliate.

He described Netanyahu’s decision to move forward with the strikes as the “right move,” arguing that Iran is constantly testing the limits of its adversaries.

“We have an adversary who understands that he is in a learning competition with the best and is willing to take aggressive risks. Israel must not be afraid of this friction and must not recoil now.”
