Anti-Israel rioters attack McDonalds in Barcelona, 15 arrested

Tens of thousands said to participate in anti-Israel demonstrations across Spain, held as part of nationwide strike protesting alleged “genocide” in Gaza.

Anti-Israel rioters vandalized major fast-food chains during pro-Palestinian protests in Barcelona on Wednesday, as demonstrators lit fires, blocked main roads, and clashed violently with local police.

Tens of thousands of people are believed to have participated in the demonstrations, which descended into chaos despite the recent ceasefire that ended fighting between Israel and the Gaza-based Hamas terror group.

Estimates for the size of the protest varied widely, with organizers claiming 50,000 people attended, while Spanish national police placed the number closer to 15,000.

The Barcelona protest was one of many held across Spain as part of a nationwide strike on Wednesday, denouncing what activists called “genocide” in Gaza. Hospitals shut down except for essential services, and schools and public transportation operated on a limited basis.

Protesters in Barcelona carried signs reading, “This is not a war, it’s a genocide,” “Long live the struggle of the Palestinian people,” and “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” according to local Spanish media reports.

Videos circulating on social media showed masked rioters spray-painting and smashing the windows of McDonald’s, Burger King, and Starbucks locations in Barcelona. Pro-Palestinian activists have accused those global brands of “collaborating” with Israel.

Demonstrators also targeted the hotel of a visiting Israeli basketball team, forcing players and coaches to relocate for safety. The game was later held in an empty arena without spectators — a condition imposed by Spanish police due to security concerns.

Rioters violently attacked officers who were attempting to protect the Israeli team from the mob. At least 15 people were arrested amid the violence.

The Spanish government has adopted increasingly hostile rhetoric toward Israel in recent months. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez recently lamented that Spain does not possess nuclear weapons, implying they could be used to stop Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
