A 22-year-old Jewish man was violently assaulted in the early hours of Monday morning in Golders Green, north London, in what is being investigated as an antisemitic hate crime.

According to accounts shared by the victim’s family and community sources, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. when the young man stepped outside his apartment building to make a phone call.

While speaking Hebrew, he was allegedly overheard by a group of five masked men.

The attackers reportedly chased him, dragged him across the road, and brutally beat him until he was close to losing consciousness.

They tore his clothes, removed and threw away his shoes, and shouted abuse in Arabic during the assault.

A neighbor who heard the commotion called the police. The suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.

The victim was treated at the scene, and the incident has been reported to both the Metropolitan Police and the Community Security Trust (CST).

This latest attack comes amid heightened tensions and a wave of antisemitic incidents in Golders Green and across London.

The area, home to one of the largest Jewish communities in the UK, has seen multiple violent episodes in recent weeks, including the April 29 stabbing of two Jewish men that was declared a terrorist incident by police.

Community leaders and residents have expressed growing alarm over the safety of Jewish Londoners, with many describing a climate of fear in what has traditionally been a vibrant and relatively secure neighborhood.

Police are treating the latest assault as an antisemitic hate crime and are appealing for witnesses or information. Investigations are ongoing.

The Jewish community continues to urge heightened vigilance, with CST and local volunteer security groups stepping up patrols.
