19-year-old Sydney man released from custody after being detained over threats to assassinate Israel’s president during his upcoming visit to Australia, while also making antisemitic comments and making death threats to President Donald Trump.

A Sydney man was arrested this week after he threatened to kill Israeli President Isaac Herzog during his upcoming visit to Australia.
On Wednesday, police conducted a search at the home of Darcy Tinning, 19, before arresting him.
During the search, police seized Tinning’s phone and equipment authorities say is used for making or using drugs.
Tinning was held in custody overnight after being denied bail before his court appearance on Thursday.
Prosecutors say Tinning recently threatened to assassinate Herzog, who is slated to in Australia on Sunday.
In a January 19 post on his X account, Tinning is said to have vowed he would shoot Herzog with a pistol.
Tinning also threatened to kill President Donald Trump and made a number of antisemitic comments online.
During Thursday’s court hearing, a prosecutor told the judge that in the wake of multiple violent antisemitic attacks in the area, including the deadly shooting attack on a Chanukah celebration in Sydney last December, threats such as those made by Tinning cannot be ignored.
“The current heated climate, the unrest in the community, makes the threats very serious,” the prosecutor said.
“Unacceptable risks exist which cannot be mitigated if the defendant is released in this climate of political unrest.”
Brendan Green, an attorney representing Tinning, acknowledged that Tinning’s comments online were “completely inappropriate,” but argued that they were not directed at any particular group, and added that there was no indication the teenager actually planned to follow through on his threats.
Tinning is being charged with making death threats through a communications service and could face up to 10 years in prison if he is found guilty.
