Bank of Israel hosts bank governors from 18 countries

In yet another display of its success in growing ties with other countries, Israel hosted for the first time an international conference for bank governors from Eastern Europe and Asia.

The Bank of Israel on Monday welcomed in Jerusalem bank governors from 18 countries as it hosted for the first time the international conference of central banks belonging to the Central Bank Governors’ Club of Central Asia, the Black Sea Region and Balkan Countries,

The forum meets every six months in a different country, and this time met in Jerusalem at the invitation of the Governor of the Bank of Israel, Dr. Karnit Flug.

“The Israeli economy is impacted by the global economy, and there is utmost importance to international cooperation and professional conversation,” Flug said.

She expressed her satisfaction that Jerusalem was hosting the prestigious event and for the opportunity to present the officials with “outstanding examples of the technological innovation for which Israel’s economy is known. We derive great benefit from our close working relationships with central banks worldwide and view the high professional regard of Israel’s economy as an important asset.”

Bank governors came from Russia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, and Albania. In addition, deputy Governors or senior officials from China, Turkey, Greece, Moldova, Poland, Azerbaijan and Belarus participated.

The conference was opened by the Governor of the Bank of Israel. Other central bank governors discussed the economic developments in their countries.

Other topics discussed included the developments in Israel’s economy, cyber risks in the banking system and Israel’s cyber industry.
