German guesthouse refuses to accept Israeli tourists

Four Israeli families who reserved lodgings at the Mattenhof guesthouse in the Black Forest town of Zell am Harmersbach, were rejected by the establishment due to their nationality.

A German guesthouse in Baden-Württemberg has refused to accept reservations made by Israeli families for the coming summer.

The Jerusalem Post reported Monday that four Israeli families reserved lodgings at the Mattenhof guesthouse in the Black Forest town of Zell am Harmersbach, but were urged by the establishment to retract their reservations due to their nationality.

They initially received several messages from the guesthouse, giving different reasons for the cancellation.

“Each family got a different message. One family got an email saying the hotel only accepts guests for a minimum of one week. Another family got a message saying that booking is only available from Saturday to Saturday,” one of the Israelis told Israel’s daily Yedioth Aharonoth.

“We don’t Want have [sic] Guests from Israel, because our apartments are Not for them [sic]. Please cancel the Booking,” read the offensive message one of the Israelis received.

The guesthouse supposedly tried to retract this message.

The Israeli travelers contacted Booking.com, the platform that had facilitated the reservation, to complain and request alternative accommodations.

“It took us weeks to find the hotel and we even ordered it a year in advance,” of the group, Igor Tsehansky, told the Post on Sunday.

“Nothing has been resolved,” he said, even though the booking company offered alternative accommodations or financial compensation to the Israeli group.

Tsehansky said he plans to file a complaint against the booking company.

Such rejections of Jews due to their nationality is reminiscent of Nazi Germany.
