Black Friday turns into smuggler’s delight for terrorists on Gaza border

Israeli authorities confiscated numerous dangerous items ordered online and headed for the Gaza Strip.

Israel’s Coordination and Liaison Administration (CLA) for Gaza confiscated 325 packages from Amazon and AliExpress, a Chinese online retail service, heading to the Gaza Strip and containing dual-use items, Israel Hayom reports on Thursday.

Dual-use products are those which have both civilian and military applications.

The Internet-ordered equipment included shoes, drones, knives and scuba great, among other items.

Israeli police and soldiers at the Erez Crossing into the Gaza Strip, along with a number of other state authorities sifted through the packages and confiscated the potentially dangerous equipment, which they believe was destined for terror groups.

Col. Iyad Sarhan, head of the Coordination and Liaison Administration in Gaza, said, “This is another time that the terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip has tried to exploit the civilian policy that the State of Israel by using the post for terrorist purposes.”

“These attempts are thwarted again and again by IDF officers and soldiers, and we regard them very harshly. We will continue to work around the clock and do all we can to prevent their goal of compromising the security of the State of Israel and its citizens,” he said.

November marks Black Friday sales throughout Israel and online. Israeli authorities didn’t explicitly whether the large number of dual-use items coming in was tied to deals now available on the internet.
