Brazilian presidential candidate backs Israeli sovereignty in Judea & Samaria, vows to move embassy to Jerusalem

Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, son of the former president and a candidate for president in this year’s election, visits Israeli towns in Samaria and the Western Wall in Jerusalem, pledges to relocate his country’s embassy to the Israeli capital.

The leading challenger in this year’s presidential election in Brazil visited this week, voicing strong support for the Jewish state and pledging to relocate the country’s embassy to Jerusalem if he is elected this October.

Flávio Bolsonaro, a senator for Rio de Janeiro and the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, declared on Monday that if he succeeds in ousting incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, he will move the Brazilian embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem during his first six months in office.

Over the weekend, Bolsonaro released a video from his visit to the Western Wall in Jerusalem, explicitly linking his campaign to his father’s legacy and invoking his father’s support for Israel.

“Once again, I follow in my father’s footsteps, just as I hope that one day my daughters will follow mine and those of my wife. To save Brazil, there is no possible path away from God,” Bolsonaro wrote on X.

“May God bless all those who are walking with great sacrifice toward the liberation of our Brazil.”

Bolsonaro also visited Israeli towns in Samaria, including the community of Peduel, which offers a view of the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, earning it the nickname “The Balcony of the State.”

Samaria Regional Council chief Yossi Dagan accompanied Bolsonaro and the senator’s younger brother, who until recently served in the lower chamber of the Brazilian National Congress.

“It is very moving to host two true and courageous leaders here in Samaria, the heartland of Israel, the land of the Bible,” Dagan said.

“The residents of Samaria and all of Israel, especially those in Judea and Samaria, are in the midst of a difficult war against the barbarians of Hamas. We are fighting not just for our own security, but for global justice.”

During the tour, the Bolsonaro brothers offered their support for Israeli sovereignty in Judea and Samaria.

“I want to express my full support for the people of Judea and Samaria for what they have endured,” Senator Bolsonaro said. “I give my full support to the people of Judea and Samaria.”

Eduardo echoed his brother’s comments, saying that the region “belongs to the Jewish people, for sure.”

“We know the historical reasons for that and all the other current political reasons for that. All over the world, people are demonstrating in support of Israel, because you are on the cultural front line. For more than two thousand years, as it says in the anthem ‘Hatikvah,’ more than two thousand years of values—that is why we are here, standing with you.”

Bolsonaro is expected to face off against da Silva in a runoff vote on October 25, following the first round on October 4.

Recent polls show a tight race, with da Silva leading by four points in the most recent survey conducted by AtlasIntel, while the latest Futura poll has Bolsonaro ahead by six points.
