British MP slammed over antisemitic rhetoric in anti-IDF rant

Independent MP Shockat Adam won his seat last year on an anti-Israel platform.

Critics slammed a British MP for describing the IDF as having “blood-soaked tentacles” in a parliamentary debate Wednesday without being called to order over the antisemitic remark.

“We have witnessed the Israeli army massacre over 60,000 people in Gaza, 19,000 of whom were children.” Shockat Adam said, quoting Hamas’ unverified statistics during a discussion on Israel’s attempted assassination the previous day of top Hamas officials in Doha, Qatar.

“The blood-soaked tentacles of the Israeli army are now reaching closer to home, especially in my case,” he continued, describing how his niece and her daughter had been just a few streets away from the targeted building.

“If Shockat Adam has no idea of the historical significance of language like ‘blood-soaked tentacles,’ then he’s grotesquely ignorant and in no position to participate in this debate,” Tomos Doran, a Welsh commentator, posted on X in response. “If he *is* aware, then he really is just a Nazi. It’s pretty much as simple as that.”

The claim that Jews control the world has long been depicted by antisemites — especially by the Nazis — as a sinister octopus with its arms wrapped around the globe.

A commentator on X with the handle “Habibi” who has frequently highlighted antisemitism among Britain’s pro-Palestinian sector noted in a clip of Adam’s speech that none in the sparsely attended debate objected to his words.

“It’s 2025, so it’s no surprise to hear Nazi language in the House of Commons. See the Leicester Islamist MP Shockat Adam resort to ‘blood-soaked tentacles’ today. Does the minister call him on it? No, of course not,” Habibi wrote.

Malawi-born Adam is one of three Muslim independents who won Labour-held seats in last year’s elections by running almost exclusively on pro-Palestinian positions.

When declaring victory in Leicester South, he waved a keffiyeh and said, “This is for the people of Gaza!”

During his speech Wednesday, Adam also criticized the government for failing to condemn the Israeli army “for committing a genocide,” a charge rejected the previous week by a Foreign Office assessment of the war.

He then called for the UK to “completely stop every single arms sale to Israel, impose economic, political and social sanctions, and use all our power to get desperately needed aid into Gaza.”
