British white supremacist teen on trial for planning attacks on synagogues

16-year-old British white supremacist and admirer of Hitler scouted local synagogues as possible targets for terror attacks that he hoped would spark a race war.

A teenage white supremacist went on trial Tuesday after he allegedly planned and prepared for a series of terrorist attacks that he hoped would set in motion a race war, prosecutors said.

The 16-year-old’s identity has not been cleared for publication because of his age, nor has his place of residence, which has been described as a remote area in northern Britain.

During a hearing at Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday, prosecutors said the suspect became obsessed with white supremacy by 13 and demonstrated admiration for terrorists.

“He wanted to be a terrorist. He believed in a race war, in white supremacy, and he planned to carry out acts of terrorism in furtherance of his beliefs,” prosecutor Michelle Heeley said.

Over the years, the suspect downloaded videos of various terrorist attacks and beheadings.

He also displayed a strong admiration for Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, and a hatred toward Jews and blacks.

Authorities say the suspect had contacted a far-right group known as The Base, and at one point put up posters for the group in his hometown.

Eventually, the suspect moved from merely adulating white supremacist terrorism to seriously considering carrying out his own attacks.

The suspect downloaded materials for assembling various weapons, including explosive devices, and researched nearby synagogues, scouting some of them out as potential targets for future attacks.

During a raid on the suspect’s home, police found crossbows, knives, and military clothing.

“These were not empty words, these were the words of a teenage boy filled with hate and racism, a boy who was planning to channel his anger into committing an act of terrorism, who idolized those who had carried out such atrocities previously,” Heeley said.
