In a controversial ruling, Israel’s High Court of Justice ordered the government to restore Red Cross access to Palestinian security prisoners, overturning a policy imposed after the October 7 Hamas massacre.
The ban was introduced after Hamas refused to allow Red Cross visits to Israeli hostages held in Gaza, many of whom endured months of captivity without any international oversight. The court ruled that the government failed to provide a sufficient legal basis for continuing the restriction and stated that Israel must once again permit visits and the transfer of information regarding prisoners.
