Cuomo: ‘I’ll flee NYC if Mamdani wins’

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo called the mayoral race “all or nothing.” Mayor Eric Adams warned of crime and chaos after a Mamdani victory.

Two prominent New York City Democrats have spoken out forcefully against far-left mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, warning that his election could have dire consequences for the city.

One of those Mamdani critics even joked that he would “move to Florida” if the socialist hopeful were to win.

Current New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a former Democrat now running as an independent in the upcoming election, criticized Mamdani’s anti-carceral stances, arguing they would worsen street crime.

“Look at Mamdani’s policies: once you empty out Rikers Island, that’s a major impact,” Adams told the New York Post, referencing Mamdani’s pledge to slash the the city’s jail population. “That crime is going to return to the same communities it came from.”

Adams also slammed Mamdani’s proposal to dispatch social workers instead of police officers for domestic violence calls, citing the 2022 murder of two officers who were responding to a family disturbance.

“I think we’re going to see some real errors” if Mamdani wins, Adams said. “His policies are harmful to the city.”

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who served from 2011 to 2021, echoed Adams’ concerns, calling the upcoming mayoral election a make-or-break moment for the city’s future.

“It’s all or nothing. We either win — or even I will move to Florida. God forbid,” Cuomo said, according to attendees at a recent political event in the Hamptons.

After the event, Rich Azzopardi, a senior advisor to Cuomo, clarified that the remark was made in jest.

“Governor Cuomo would never give up on New York,” he told the Post.

“The comment was meant to underscore the high stakes in this election and the danger of electing a dangerously inexperienced, hate-spewing 33-year-old socialist to lead the city.”
