Israel blasts ‘Palestinian puppet masters’ behind UN vote, says ‘no resolution will drive us from Jerusalem’

Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon announced, “No UNESCO declaration, no empty speeches, no General Assembly resolution will ever drive us from Jerusalem.”

As the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) met in an emergency session Thursday to vote on a resolution denouncing US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon offered a harsh rebuke to the assembled diplomats.

The resolution under consideration expresses “deep regret at recent decisions regarding Jerusalem,” and calls on “all States to refrain from the establishment of diplomatic missions in the Holy City of Jerusalem.”

The UNGA voted 128-9 with 35 abstentions to declare as “null and void” the recent declaration by President Trump that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital.

Addressing the General Assembly, Danon argued that the countries supporting the resolution had done so at the urging of the Palestinians.

“Those who support today’s resolution are like puppets pulled by the strings of the Palestinian puppet masters,” said Danon. “You are like marionettes forced to dance while the Palestinian leadership looks on with glee,” the Ambassador continued.

Danon noted the recent Palestinian rocket attacks from Gaza and went on to say that “violence and terror must never be tolerated.” He continued, “if this body were really united for peace, it would pass a resolution condemning Palestinian violence.”

As the address began, Danon displayed a coin from the year 67 AD, which had been minted during the Jewish revolt against the Romans. Prior to the vote, replicas of the coin had been distributed to the UN ambassadors.

“On this coin is written ‘Freedom of Zion.’ It proves the ancient connection of Jews to Jerusalem,” Danon explained. “No UNESCO declaration, no empty speeches, no General Assembly resolution will ever drive us from Jerusalem,” he concluded.
