‘Death to Araghchi, no compromise’ – Iranians protest against deal

Protesters accused Iranian officials of dishonoring Khamenei by pursuing a deal with Trump.

Dozens of Iranian citizens gathered for a passionate rally on Saturday night, calling on senior regime officials to resign and voicing strong opposition to a potential agreement that could end the war with the United States.

The protesters, who represent a hardline faction opposed to any compromise with Washington, assembled outside the Foreign Ministry’s office in the northeastern city of Mashhad.

In footage published by Iran’s state-affiliated Fars News Agency, demonstrators were seen calling for the death of Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who recently wrote on X that a deal with the United States is “closer than ever.”

The crowd chanted, “Death to dishonorable Araghchi, the compromiser,” while also demanding his immediate resignation.

At a separate rally outside the Foreign Ministry in Tehran, protesters called on Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, along with Araghchi, to step down.

Others at the Tehran demonstration shouted, “Araghchi, what about my leader’s blood?” in reference to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed during the opening strikes of the Iran war in late February.

Hossein Shariatmadari, editor of the pro-regime Kayhan newspaper, criticized the reported terms of the prospective deal, particularly the possibility of Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz. He argued that control of the strategic waterway remains Tehran’s strongest bargaining chip in negotiations.

Iranian lawmaker Mohammad Mannan Raisi similarly condemned the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, which is expected to be signed on Sunday, arguing that it violates red lines established by the late Khamenei.

Raisi urged Iranian leaders to show “a bit of honor” and reject an agreement with President Donald Trump, whom he described as the “killer” of Khamenei.
